 Students 4 – 6 years

These 45 minute semi-private lessons provide age appropriate piano instruction for 4 – 6 year old’s while simultaneously developing listening skills.   They are designed to provide a balance between the discipline necessary for playing the instrument and the enjoyment one gets from the process of music-making. This is a two-year program with four levels of learning.

Scheduling semi-private lessons is done on a first-come, first-served basis.  All lessons take place Mon-Wed between 2:45-6:45 PM and Saturday 10:30-2:30 PM at Miss Peggy’s Music Room.

Books and Materials

Each child uses the Music For Little Mozarts music lesson book, a music workbook and a piano recital book during class. The lesson books at each level introduce musical concepts and contain keyboard performance music.  The workbook includes coloring and ear training activities to reinforce musical concepts.   The recital book provides more keyboard performance music.  Students progress through 4 levels.   Also available, but not required are plush animals, cd’s and a music activity board.

Benefits of Semi-Private Study

Historically, pre-school music instruction has been conducted in groups often with parents attending and assisting students in the lessons.  This approach is very effective as young students enjoy the interaction with peers.   Parents enjoy the opportunity to share these experiences with their children.

Activities

Each semi-private lesson includes a variety of activities chosen from keyboard performance, singing, music appreciation, coloring, movement, listening and rhythm activities. These activities are structured to take into consideration the young child’s small hands and limited attention span.

At Home Practice

Your child will receive an assignment for the week.   Children should practice daily for 10-15 minutes.   Two brief practice times are preferable to one longer session.   The parent should sit nearby the child during practice time so that the child doesn’t feel isolated.
